I would guess that most of these little aprons are from the 50's. I began collecting them about 15 years ago and have quite a number of them by now....I grabbed a few to share with you here...the blue and pink print is my favorite. (Click to enlarge any of the images)
It belonged to my Grandma...I am sure she must have sewn it herself. It has the cutest flounced skirt detail and the edges are bound in contrasting seam binding. The apron strings tie into a really cheerful bow.
This is another apron that belonged to my grandma - it is so tiny, I am sure she crocheted it for one of her little girls!
Each stitch is so carefully placed...she was quite talented.
I don't have a special place for my aprons, nor do I keep them on display...when I do get them out from time to time - usually while planning a portrait session - I enjoy seeing them folded together.
Besides the aprons that belonged to my grandma I have collected the others from yard sales and flea markets. I usually look for bright, cheerful patterns or embroidered details.
While shopping the flea markets I also keep an eye out for little doll dresses such as the gingham pinafore on the doll below...isn't she sweet? I would love to find more information about her.
As I mentioned earlier, I don't display my aprons because I just can't think of a clever way to do it without making my house look like a child's bedroom. If you have any display or storage ideas, I would love to hear them!
This week I am hooked on aprons! Visit Hooked on Houses to find what everyone else is hooked on this week!
P.S. While on the subject of aprons I wanted to thank Cece at All Dolled Up for the sweetest review on her blog... while I was visiting I found that she sews the cutest retro aprons...take a peek here.
A favorite from a portrait session...I love to add a little vintage detail!

I have lots and lots of aprons too :) I love them! Yours are so great!

Love aprons! I'm always so drawn to them in stores, but I don't ever wear the one I own. Anthropologie has the loveliest!
If you have a pantry, maybe you could hang them inside the door on a robe hook?

Your aprons are so sweet Christy! It's nice to have one that belonged to your grandma. I love how you've displayed them on the hooks ... perhaps you could hang them in your kitchen? They look pretty folded on the chair too. xo

I loved this post! Aprons have really made a comeback, haven't they? There are so many pretty ones to choose from now. But I think it would be even better to have ones from a grandmother like you do! Thanks for joining my party and sharing these with us. Your blog is always so inspiring.

Oh these are such lovely photos. If you're a quilter, you could piece them into a quilt and display them that way? Maybe once they're too worn out to actually use? Regardless, they're very pretty!
